(Fundamentals of Rigging Information)

For use in our standard fundamentals of rigging seminars and for end users to use in the field, Crosby has for many years made available laminated pocket size rigging cards called “Users Guide” or “Users Guide for Lifting” reference cards.

The pocket size rigging cards give the user in the field quick and easy access to much of the same information found in our Fundamentals of Rigging seminar workbook including capacity charts for Crosby shackles, hooks, rings, eyebolts and hoist rings to name a few. Our standard rigging card also provides capacity charts for standard wire rope and alloy chain slings used for overhead lifting applications. Some of the other key features of our standard pocket size rigging card includes:

  • Definition of working load limit
  • Design factors
  • Inspection of rigging hardware criteria
  • Basic rigging plan
  • User’s responsibilities
  • Manufacturer’s responsibilities
  • Load angle factors for calculating sling tension
  • Inspection of slings criteria
  • References the ASME or EN standards that may be applicable. (Standard referenced depends on which card is purchased.

The standard rigging cards discussed in this article include 16 different panels of information and are available in many different languages with offerings in imperial and metric units. Below is a list of the more popular standard pocket size rigging cards available for purchase from Crosby that address fundamentals of rigging in construction, offshore energy, oil/gas, and manufacturing markets to name a few.

Heavy lifts require special techniques, special training, and special tools. The content that we teach in our seven hour Heavy Lift seminar is a good place to start, and covers various examples of worldwide heavy lifts, critical lifts, rigging plans, heavy lift shackles, hooks, terminations, blocks, bearings and various heavy lift considerations.

This seminar's content is structured around our Heavy Lift Guide - a special rigging guide that is focused on factors that come into play during heavy lifts and critical lifts. And the Heavy Lift Guide app for iPad takes the information to a whole new level with over 30 interactive calculators that allow you to save and email the results of your calculations.

With informative slides from Crosby’s World Class Heavy Lift Training seminars, and product information on selected Crosby hardware designed for heavy lifts, this app has enhancements that go beyond just the calculators, and provide excellent information to those who have an interest or a need for heavy lift content.

The Crosby Eliminator® provides advantages over traditional adjustable chain slings as well as the competition.

A few of these advantages are:

  • Eliminates many fittings needed in traditional adjustable chain slings.
  • Fewer fittings provide you with a chain sling that is lighter and easier to inspect.
  • Two piece design allows maximum flexibility. The same bail fits either the single or double hook.
  • Available in five sizes, 9/32” (7mm) through 5/8” (16mm)
  • Wider and longer bail accommodates more hook sizes.

Crosby is pleased to announce the release of a new video for its Vitalife® product offering - the premier wire rope lubricant of the rigging and lifting industry. The four-minute video provides a detailed description of the uses and benefits of the Vitalife® product line and features a step-by-step demonstration of the Crosby Vitalife® spray system method of application, as well as highlight the most important aspects of the product.

Pursuant to the Crosby guarantee of quality without compromise, the Vitalife® product line extends the life of a wire rope by providing complete protective coverage to every strand, including the core. Application of Vitalife®lubricants results in a clear, dry-to-the-touch coating that enables full visual inspection—a key product feature that ensures Vitalife® meets OSHA inspection requirements. In addition, Vitalife® Bio-Lube meets the intent of the EPA’s Vessel General Permit 2013, which requires the use of Environmentally Acceptable Lubricants in all “oil-to-sea” applications within U.S. waters. This biodegradable product offering is an invaluable resource to all marine ports due to its universal use within environmentally-sensitive areas where regulations often change.
